Publisher's Synopsis
The Government's initiative "Quality in Town and Country" was launched on 13 July 1994 by John Gummer, Secretary of State for the Department of the Environment, with the publication of a discussion document. The aim of the document was threefold: to raise the awareness of the importance of good design and quality of buildings in the environment; to encourage debate and stimulate ideas about how to achieve quality in future; and to challenge others to see what they were prepared to do to achieve quality. Responses to the discussion document were invited and over 1100 were received. This report brings together the findings to provide: an overview of the techniques used to analyze the responses to the discussion document; an overview of the key findings; and a further discussion of the key findings and recommendations for future action.
