Publisher's Synopsis

Abstracts play a fundamental role in Information Organization. They act as a link to the original text. In this context, this study was concerned with answering the following question: Do the abstracts recorded in the Final Papers of the UFSC Librarianship Course have the necessary requirements to qualify them as true information representation products? To this end, the general objective was to investigate the abstracts recorded in the Final Papers of the UFSC Librarianship Course. The specific objectives were: a) to select a set of Final Papers (TCC) from the UFSC Librarianship Course; b) to analyze the TCC abstracts from the perspective of the methodology proposed by Kobashi (1994) and c) to propose guidelines for the preparation of TCC abstracts. From the point of view of the approach to the problem, this is a quantitative-qualitative study. In terms of objectives, it is exploratory and in terms of technical procedures it is defined as documentary. The corpus consisted of 30 abstracts from the Library Science course, indexed in the institutional repository of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC).
