Publisher's Synopsis
This monograph presents a Socratic dialogue between the author and three unnamed researchers. Their discussion is presented as a journey through some of the major approaches to research. The purpose of this discussion is to make the complex simple through asking questions - some of which could be seen as quite naive. It is not intended to be a complete introduction to all the intricacies of research - as will become apparent to readers as they progress through the text.;The evidence for the monograph is drawn from personal experience of supervising postgraduate dissertations and doctoral theses over two decades. In that time it has become apparent that difficulties of understanding how the many approaches to research relate one to another are a common issue for researchers. Answering these questions has entailed unravelling the methodologies of research for those who were to embark on their own intellectual journeys. It is also apparent that writers do not always consider the needs or expectations of their readers. The monograph explores this consideration though posing questions to the reader of the text.
