Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from An Introduction to the New Testament, Vol. 1: Containing an Examination of the Most Important Questions Relating to the Authority, Interpretation, and Integrity of the Canonical Books, With Reference to the Latest Inquiries
What the Germans call Introduction has not engaged many minds in this country, owing to a variety of causes which it were super?uous to detail. Probably too little attention has been given to theological literature in England. There are few books on it in our language. Every one familiar with the modern works published by theologians and critics in various lands and languages knows, that there is no English book which gives a fair or adequate idea of the present state of Opinion in this department. The Author therefore proposes to supply a want Which many doubtless feel; and in regard to which it is not always expedient to direct the young theologian to the most recent publications in Germany.
