Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from An Index to the Wills and Inventories Now Preserved in the Court of Probate, at Chester, From A. D., 1621-1650: With Two Appendices; I. A List of the Lancashire and Cheshire Wills Proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, 1650-1660; II. A List of the Lancashire and Cheshire Administrations Granted in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, 1650-1660
The above Act of the 8th April, 16 53, virtually put an end to all the local Courts of Probate, and all wills had thenceforth to be proved and letters of administration to be taken out in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury; and it was not till after the restoration of Charles II., in 1660, that this Act was done away with, and wills were once again allowed, to be proved, as heretofore, in the Various Bishops' Courts throughout the kingdom.
