Philosophers and artists have lately united in improving the' machines for exciting the electric ?uid. These at present are much more powerful, and more easily ma naged and kept in repair than formerly. The modes of using electricity are also much varied and improved: we can direct the electric ?uid through any'p'art of the body with the greatest safety and convenience apply it to the most tender infant without the least injury; or gradually increase it, to imitate the sudden and fatal ef feets of the lightning.
