Excerpt from An Illustrated Biographical Catalogue of the Principals, Teachers, and Students of the West Newton English and Classical School, West Newton, Mass., 1854-1893: Including an Account of the Re-Unions November 15, 1871, and June 21, 1893
The compilation of this catalogue was undertaken by an early pupil, as a pastime, and has been carried on for over six years, the first three years having been employed in locating the individual teacher or pupil, or a relative.
This search for the person often necessitated a dozen letters, while the obtaining of a personal sketch, in reply to a series of printed questions mailed to each person, or to some relative where the person was not living, has, in seventy-five per cent of the cases, required a second circular (of which circulars a total of six thousand have been mailed), and in fifty per cent of the cases where these second circulars were sent, they had to be followed by one, or several, personal letters asking reply.
With the exception of those not located, each individual person is therefore responsible for any lack of details regarding himself or herself.
Any discrepancies in the present address, or occupation, arise from changes made since the information was obtained.
