Having difpatched the Hifiorical Memoir on Italian Tragedy, I thought a further ufe fhoul'd be made of my colleaion of Italian dramas, which, through the aé'tive kindnefs of my friends and my own exertions, has increafed confiderahly, .and is fiill increafing.w I was therefore induced to turn my attention to the Revival of the Drama in Italy, a fubjet'l which fome of the Reviewers feem ed to think I had treated too ?ightly. An am plification of the Introdu?ion to my former Work was my original plan; but as I advanced, I had fo often occafion to extend the boundaries I had marked out for myfelf, that my labours at length brought forth a volume. To this pleating, yet arduous, talk, feveral years have been devoted.
