The central role of sector sponsorship is to stimulate a debate within the industry about its international competitive position and to encourage each industry to take action to improve performance. This report evaluates sector sponsorship activities of the engineering industries directorates in the DTI.;The report aims to assess the effectiveness of the DTI sponsorship as exemplified by the EID (Engineering Industries Directive) and develop methodology for strategic and comparitive evaluation, which can also be used more widely within the DTI, to ensure that the department has adequate evidence about the impact of its activities on industry competitiveness.
