In 2005, Congress established the National Cord Blood Depositories to help restore damage to bone marrow in case of a nuclear explosion. In 2010, the law was amended to ensure storage of a minimum of 150,000 units . However, the U.S. government has not developed nor adopted a plan to these blood depositories.
