Excerpt from An Annual Discourse Delivered Before the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, November 19, 1828
Accordingly, on the 6th March, an act was passed, which, in its preamble, declared that the trustees and other ofiicers'of the college, aca demy, and charity school, had been without trial by jury, legal process, or proof of misuser or for feiture, deprived of their charters, franchises, and estates, and denounced the said act of 1779, as re pugnant to justice, a'violation of the constitution of this commonwealth, and dangerous m lts precedent to all incorporated bodies, and, in its enactments, repealed so much of it, as touched, or, 111 anywise, concerned, the ancient corporation, or either of the fornier charters, revived the powers of the said ancient corporationhand authorised them to recover their estates.
