In September, 2005, as Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans, the author was asked to assist at a staging area in Chamblee, Georgia where many refugee families were taken after they fled the storm and its tragedies. As a clinical social worker, Jane was moved time and time again as she listened to stories of heartbreak and loss, courage and resilience. One little boy named Melvin told her about losing his mother as the waters rose. He shared that his "Mama" was up in heaven now. Jane understood and assured Melvin that he had, and always would have, an angel on his shoulder.
