After serving contin uously for nine years he voluntarily went on the retired list as a brigadier-general. Colonel Hutchison was not to be permitted to remain on the retired list, as the Governor of Tennessee, Malcolm R. Patterson, ap pointed him the Commissary General of the State, and also a member of his personal mil itary stafi, which office he held with marked ability, as his previous training fitted him for the post.
