The book Always in Threes is the fourth in the series of Jack Callahan crime fiction novels. Working with the same team as he did in his last books, Jack is confronted with a new crime process that is again aimed at those who are small or weak. In this book, Jack is confronted with the personal need for him to make some changes to himself and the ways he deals with others. He sees that his team has matured and that to maintain his ability to perform good deeds, it is better for him to allows others to take leadership roles and for him to focus on those tasks he can do best.
It seems as though everyone around Jack is smarter and able to think faster than him and that is made apparent by the small girl at the center of this investigation. But Jack by simply being Jack, finds a way for himself to contribute in a way that again exhibits his importance to his team.
