Excerpt from Along Four-Footed Trails: Wild Animals of the Plains as I Knew Them
On arrival, the boys helped me to dig a hole in the side of a small mound of dirt and in it we placed a wooden shoe-box. In its side they cut a hole for an entrance and the lidless top was turned downward. This allowed the pup to dig under her wooden home, if she chose. We found a broad, thick strap to serve as a collar and a steel chain. With these the pup was se curely fastened, named Bruno and introduced to her new home.
Bruno was nearly a foot long, with a straight bushy tail and an abundance of thick, brownish.
