With crisis averted and school terms ended, Matthew Calamos and others return to their homes across the Confederacy, but they do not find the rest and relaxation they were hoping for. As some of them encounter dangers too close to home, others will confront expectations or destinies they are reluctant to face, whether they are prepared for such fates or not.
While Matt and his former friends or foes adapt to the changes or challenges ahead of them, tension between the leaders of the Confederacy's states continues to grow, and forces like the Shadow Core may be planning to have that tension break. But Gaiax and his terrorists are not the only ones with dark intent for the country's citizens.
Conspiracies abound, trusts are betrayed, and spirits are shattered before one event shall alter the course of Alkalian history forever.
