Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Adventures of a Guardsman
Being myself intended for the Church, my earliest recollection refers to a period when I was placed as a pupil with a very worthy and much respected minister of the Church, the Rev. J. T - s, who kept a public prepara tory school m my native town of Haverford west, in the county of Pembroke, South Wales, vulgarly denominated a free school. Whe ther or not it was a free school, I cannot say; but I am inclined to think, from striking proofs I received at the hands of my respect ed parents for various little acts of truantism, that they had really a greater interest in my attendance than my own personal and parti onlar advancement would sufficiently warrant.
