Publisher's Synopsis
The ventral striatopallidal and magnocellular systems emerged as organizing principles of the basal forebrain during the 1970s and 1980s. The concept of the extended amygdala, while still controversial, is beginning to guide the thinking of scientists in the 1990s who are investigating the role of the basal forebrain in motivated behaviours and their dysfunction. This volume explores the anatomy and function of the basal forebrain systems in neuropsychiatric and addictive behaviour.
