Publisher's Synopsis
"Advances in Plant Pathology" publishes reviews on topics of current or future interest and importance to plant pathologists. This volume focuses on mycorrhizal fungi, a group of taxonomically diverse organizations which underpin many of the world's ecosystems, commercial forest plantations and agricultural crops.;The contributions in this book should raise many new questions. They cover mycorrhiza in plant communities, the physiology of mycorrhizal plants, modelling plant growth responses to mycorrhiza, the physiology of mycelium, nitrogen metabolism of ectomycorrhiz and their fungi, genetics of the fungi and management of mycorrhiza in crops and plantations. The beneficial role of these fungi on plant production is in contrast to pathogens, yet many aspects of the plant/fungus interaction parallel that of pathogens. Future research on these fungi should hold many challenges.
