The purpose of this book is review a number of novel techniques recently developed in plant breeding and plant biotechnology. The emphasis is on newer methods for the genetic modification of plants rather than on the more traditional areas but the aim is to integrate advances with established knowledge in plant breeding. Chapters present reviews of a number of general methodologies, and breeding for specific resistance characteristics - to pests, pathogens and physiological stresses - although the book is not intended as a laboratory manual. The book provides a very useful review of a number of recent developments and helps integrate some of the rapid advances in plant biotechnology with the more traditional areas of plant breeding.
