This issue contains a collection of papers from Japan which provide a comprehensive review of the information currently available in the HTLV1 associated leukemia-lymphoma-like disorder and also the myelopathy described as having a similar association. The prevalence of these disorders is far greater in Japan than elsewhere in the world and their experience with the clinical aspects of the disease and their development of hypotheses with regard to its nature and transmission has been a model of research methodology.
