Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Addresses Delivered at the Fifty-Fourth Annual Commencement of the National Medical College: Medical Department of the Columbian University
Such men bring nothing but reproach on your profession. Their malpractices always aggravate disease, or produce it where none existed; and though the fees of the regular physician are always larger when he is called ih, - and this must be done if the patient does not die too soon, - yet in spite of your enlarged profits, you, and all true physicians, must be honest enough, for the sake of humanity, to stop these vultures from preying upon society, - and when this is accomplished, another Saint Patrick's day will be set apart in our calendar to commemorate the event.
One more element of success in the true physician I must name. In order to overcome the difficulties you may meet in life, you must have courage. N O coward ever succeeded in any profession.
