The particular manner of this self-erection of a band of Christians into a church body-politic, was the solemn adop tion of a Covenant, by which visible document of agreement and sacred confederation, the signers regarded themselves as made into a Church of Christ, having all necessary powers of admission, discipline, choice of officers, and ordination of them to their appointed work.
