Publisher's Synopsis
Despite the continuous, massive and strident campaign against high cholesterol as the main responsible for the generation of coronary artery disease, with many and many studies seeking to confirm and reinforce this concept, old and recent research suggests that its precipitation can be a healing response of the body in front of the injury suffered by the endothelium. This line of thought has had some weight in our ideas when we developed the Acidity Theory of Atherosclerosis in 2006. The story in details how we arrived at this theory was told in the book "Following the steps of a genious - A saga in medicine," 2011 (The English version of this book will be released soon). In the present book we present a selection of articles. Among these are adressed the following points: a) That most risk factors for atherosclerosis activates the sympathetic nervous system, for example, psychological stress, age, smoking, air pollution and diets with high carbohydrate content. b) That in diseases associated with atherosclerosis, for example, diabetes, hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea and erectile dysfunction, occurs the sympathetic predominance. c) The relationship between abnormal lactate metabolism with the highest concentration of lipids in the coronary arteries. d) The elevation of lactic acid in the plasma as a link between atherosclerosis and other diseases.
