Publisher's Synopsis
The use of symbolic and metaphoric expressions is normative in the literary convention of Jewish prophetism. Ezekiel stands in this prophetic tradition in his use of symbolic sign-acts and particularly the shepherd metaphor in chapter 34. This book seeks to discover, first, the reason(s) why symbolic sign-acts are used in Ezekiel far more than any other Jewish prophet. It secondly seeks to know why the prophet used the shepherd metaphor while addressing his fellow Babylonian exiles.
