Excerpt from A Textbook of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, or the Action of Drugs in Health and Disease
During the eighteen months which have elapsed since the appear me of the second edition, several important advances have been made in pharmacology, necessitating corresponding changes in the text. The most interesting of these advances is the authoritative and, it is to be hoped, final determination of the food value of alcohol, which has been treated in more detail than in former editions. The increasing use of mine as a local anesthetic, and the introduction of the subarachnoid method of medication required an expansion of the chapter on this drug, and the same may be said of the pages devoted to the adrenal gland. Numerous minor changes have been made to bring the text up to date and several new illustrations have been added.
