Publisher's Synopsis
The Ribble Estuary exhibits enhanced radioactivity arising from authorized discharges of radioactive effluent made by British Nuclear Fuels plc (BNFL) Springfields and from other discharges, principally from BNFL Sellafield, made to the Irish Sea. In 1991 HMIP commissioned the School of Ocean Science of the University of Wales, Bangor to survey the radionuclide activities over a 16 month period and provide a radiological assessment. The results of this work are detailed in two reports. The first report presents the results of radionuclide activity within the Ribble Estuary. This second report presents the results of a radiological assessment of non-food exposure pathways for members of the public using the estuary principally for recreation.
