One of the first to observe vapor pressures of aqueous solutions by a static method using a Rayleigh manometer was Smite: who worked With nan03 and nacl solutions. Wood'has measured the vapor pressures of concentrated sugar solutions at high temperatures by a static method. The static method has some decided advantages over the dynamic methods, which will not be enumerated at this time, except in regard to the fact that the general equation of Porter'is derived on Just such conditions as are encountered in the static method, namely; the solution is under the hydrostatic pressure of its own vapor.
