This department is typical of other departments, and manufactures approximately fifty products, most of which perform a similar general function. These fifty products are grouped into twelve families based on similarities in design and on the sharing of production equipment and labor. Since each item in a family shares the same production resources, aggregate production planning takes place at the family level.
