Excerpt from A Study of Possible Toxic Effects of Carbamate Finishing Agents

Ethyl carbamate, under its common name urethane, was dispensed as a tranquil izer for a number of years until it was dis placed by the several long-chain carbamates which are now used. Although it is one of the few compounds now classed as a carcino gen which has been thoroughly tested on human beings, apparently no records are available as to its effect with regard to formation of tumors.
