Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from A Song of Autumn and Other Poems
When the father's itinerancy compelled a change, in order to provide a more stable home life for his family, he established them on a farm at the foot of the Marysville Buttes in Sutter County. Be ing allowed a large freedom, Henry Meade spent much time in wandering over the hills and in hunt ing ducks and geese in the Sutter Tules. Quite often his father took the growing lad with him on his circuit rides of sixty, eighty, and even a hundred miles, thus introducing him to a larger field of nature and to a variety of the sturdy Chris tian people of the region.
