Catalogue of a joint exhibition to celebrate the American Bicentennial, held in Philadelphia from April 28 through Nov. 1976, with materials from the collections of the American Philosophical Soc. (APS), The Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and The Library Company of Philadelphia. The catalogue, like the exhibit itself, is addressed to Amererican citizens who wish both to know more about the formation of the American nation in the years from 1765 to 1789 and to see the very books and documents in which the men of that generation recorded their thoughts, decisions, and acts. The catalogue therefore excludes bibliographical data; but it contains commentaries on the significance of individual entries. Profusely illustrated.
