Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from A Retrospect and Other Articles
Mr. Watts's Ideas, Methods, and Pictures, from the Illustrated Catalogue of paintings exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in 1885. These descriptions expressed at the time they were written, Mr. Watts's own views, the manuscripts and proofs having been revised by him. For this reason they are reprinted at the end of the article on his work written for the Nineteenth Century. A Retrospect, which has not before been published, was written in December, 1895, and treats of the great art which has been produced in England during the Victorian era.
