Publisher's Synopsis
A Regimental History of the Covenanting Armies extensively records the sequence of military operations and compiles orders of battle for the various campaigns. It starts with an overview of the military situation facing the Covenanters in 1639 and an assessment of the strength of their armies, followed by a detailed account of events.
The wealth of material in the book is well-organized and has now been revised and extended in this update to the original 1990 edition. This edition lists hundreds of officers, from colonel to cornet, making it an excellent resource for family history. In addition to re-examining the primary sources, the author consulted all the Church of Scotland records of the period - a major resource for recruiting, behaviour and operations. As well as containing new material on regiments in the first edition new units were discovered. Details of regimental companies are provided when available.
