Publisher's Synopsis

A Prayer for the Moncreifs is the story of a family of African American preachers. The time in which it is set is just as important as any character. The novel chronicles the family's trials and tribulations from the mid 1960's to 1981. Cousins, Morgan and Mark Moncreif are two sides of the same coin. Morgan a preacher and Mark a street smart drug dealer. Their parallel stories and their contentious relationship power the novel and make for interesting intrigue. Thomas Moncreif, the patriarch of the family starts the tradition of Moncreifs as Baptist preachers. Two of his three sons follow him into the ministry. The third son is not an atheist but subscribes to Karl Marx's philosophy that religion is the opiate of the masses. He owns and operates a mortuary and much of the action centers around the mortuary and the churches pastored by his father, brothers and son. Family conflict and tension provide a platform for strong emotion and humor. All of the characters are fictional. However, the author, a former deacons' chairman gives you license to change the names to convict the guilty.
