Publisher's Synopsis

Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the timeTimothy Dexter was born in Malden (Massachusetts). In his childhood, he was not schooled, and began working as an agricultural laborer at age 8. At 16 he was an apprentice of a furrier. In 1769 he moved to Newburyport, in the same state, where he began his commercial career. His success facilitated his marriage to the rich widow Elizabeth Frothingham, with whom he acquired a large mansion. It was considered something tared by his contemporaries, who used to give him bad directions in the form of advice with the hidden intention of discrediting him and making him squander his fortune. Thus, at the end of the American Revolution, Dexter was made with huge amounts of the old colonial currency, totally depreciated at the time. By the time commercial communications with England were restored, he had amassed a real fortune. He bought two ships and started an export business to the West Indies and to Europe.
