Ivor Cutler, poet, singer, songwriter and storyteller, whose large band of admirers included the Beatles, Bertrand Russell, John Peel and Billy Connolly, has died at the age of 83. Arc has been privileged to be his poetry publisher for the last 25 years (his first pocket-size book from Arc, Private Habits, appeared in 1981), and he will be greatly missed.
Mishap Number Three
A wee girl with pink shoes balanced on greasy grey bubbles as they swept out a duct into the stream. Villagers gathered and stood. "It's Mrs Grant's little girl." "What a bonnie dancer." The child swallowed a popular confectionery bar, burst the tough bubbles with her toe and slipped through. "It's kismet." murmured a quiet boy with O level English.
