The year 1717 began in the midst of the solicitudes and cares mentioned in the preceding volume. The indefatigable Salva-Tierra was now stooping beneath a weight of years and disorders; the stone, with which he had been long afflicted, became more violent; but his zeal would not allow him to remit his useful labours, except when he was not able to stand, and even then he took care to direct every particular with the greatest cars and attention. It was however too soon conspicuous, that his labours drew near their period.
