Publisher's Synopsis
This book and software package contains a collection of 14 numerical procedures written in BBC BASIC. These procedures can be read directly from the accompanying disc or tape and be built into the user's own programs. There are applications in mathematics, the sciences, engineering, economics and any other quantitative discipline where mathematical techniques are important. As well as the procedures, amny complete working example programs are included. Each chapter of the book deals with a particular numerical problem area and is divided into four sections: introduction to the techniques, how to use the relevant working example, detailed notes on the routines provided and finally printed examples of programs which use the procedure. The numerical techniques covered are such that the vast majority of mathematical problems that anyone might wish to solve using BBC BASIC can be dealt with by one or more of the Mathematical Toolkit procedures. The contents run as follows: how to load and run the software; introduction; solution of equations; maxima and minima; fitting curves to data; integration; ordinary differentail equations; Fourier transforms; solution of linear equations; matrix eigenvalues; matrix decomposition; method of least squares. The BBC CASIC edition is suitable for use on the BBC Microcomputer Model B, B+ (64K), Acorn Master Series machines, Acorn Electron, and Torch Z80. The software may also be used with any other computer for wich an adequate BBC BASIC compiler or interpreter is available, such as the IBM PC and compatible machines.
