The University, as a kind of Sorbonne, is purifying the language from foreign dross, and restoring ancient words and forms. The newspapers, school-books, and other pop ular publications are now almost entirely freed from semi barbarous words and idioms. In its present form, no other instrumentality so thorough and efficient for acquiring the ancient language can be found as the study of the living tongue.
