Publisher's Synopsis

The author seventy years after the events tells this story to his son who repeats it as it is told to him with some ancillary information from archives to explain each chapter.

He as a child is living in Irkutsk, and traveling across Manchuria and Siberia with his distant father and loving mother. It is hard to imagine a 6 to 8 year old boy having such precise recollections after 70 years.

At any rate, this is the period toward the end of WWI and during the Russian Revolution and Susumu tells of his experiences during the Japanese intervention along the Trans-Siberian railway.

It is interesting but leaves many unanswered questions as would be expected when a child is telling the story.
