Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from A Key to the Common Families of Seed Plants in the Central United States
The families included in the following key represent those growing in the territory from Ohio to Kansas. The number fol lowing each family refers to the page on which the family will be found in Britton's Manual of the Flora of the Northern States and Canada, 1901. All important terms used are defined in the gloss ary which should be consulted frequently by the student; other wise confusion will probably result, since some of the older terms are misleading or even incorrect. In deciding on any character or set of characters the student, unless absolutely certain, should read all the paragraphs of a given number before making a final disposition of the case. This will usually prevent him from going on the wrong track.
