Excerpt from A History of the Northern Securities Case
The aim of this history of the Northern Securities Case is to present, in connected form, the leading facts and principles which may have an interest to students of economics, in so far as these principles and facts are contained in the record, briefs, and arguments of the Case. These embrace nearly 8000 pages in all. N o attempt was made, excepting a few instances, to go outside of or beyond the statements made under oath by the various witnesses and the interpretations placed upon such statements by attorneys and judges. Several minor litiga tions connected with the Northern Securities Company have been practically ignored, for the reason that the chief records of such cases were embodied in the documents connected with the larger contest which these pages attempt to describe. A number of the briefer and more noteworthy documents are printed in the appendix to this essay.
