Chapter V is mainly by Mr. A. J. Butler (1852 for merly Fellow of Trinity, Cambridge, and editor of Dante.' Chapter VI is wholly, and Chapter VII mostly, by the Rev. F. H. Woods (1864 formerly Fellow of St. John's College, Oxford, Vicar of Chalfont St. Peter's, Bucks. Chapters IX and XI are by Mr. T. Steele, a Master of the College since 1882.
