The methods of procedure advocated in this book are those observed in the Maternity of the Woman's Hos pital of Philadelphia. The results attained by an adher ence to them have well proved their value. In this, as in former editions, I have made an effort to bring the teachings of the book up to the requirements of modern obstetric practice, and to make the little volume a wade mecum of knowledge on the subject; for the guidance, not only of the nurse, but of patients and physician as well.
