The first geologic and topographic examination in the area con M in this report was made in 1872, when the Snake River division of the Hayden Survey traversed the country from Ogden, utih, to Fort Hall, Idaho; thence went up Snake River and the valley (f Henrys Fork to its head, where an examination of the lakes, gems, and headwaters of the Fire Hole Basin and vicinity were made; thence crossed the divide to the headwaters of South Fork ?uke River and went down that stream by way of Jackson Lake and the canyon of the South Fork to its emergence on the great inn-covered plains a few miles north Of Fort Hall, Idaho. The Magic report by Frank H. Bradley 1 and the accompanying maps let forth admirably the general features along the route of travel ndgive much information that is of value in interpreting the strue llroof the region.
