Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from A Genealogical Record of the Start Family in America
In 1866 I began to gather material for the purpose of com piling a record of the Start families and their descendants with the intention of publishing the same when I could make it reasonably complete. I have not been able to trace back the ancestry as far as I had hop ed to do, but I have done the work as faithfully as I could, and send out the result for the perusal of those interested of whom there are many scattered in several states from Maine to California.
I have no doubt there will be found errors In the record, but this could hardly be avoided where so much material had to be gathered from scanty and sometimes poorly kept records, while - in some places no records could be found, in which cases the memory of relatives was drawn upon, and memory is not always reliable.
I shall be glad to have any errors or omissions pointed out, so that if at any time in the future a new edition is made.
