The Hebrew commonwealth was a kingdom of God, 'formed by a fpecial covenant which he made with that people when he brought them. Out of Egypt. Jehovah was their Law-giver, Judge and King. But this was an earthly theocracy, a kingdom Ofthis world, confiituted and governed in this peculiar manner, that it might, as a type, reprefent the kingdom of heaven, the gofpel church.
