Excerpt from A Digest of Statutes, Admiralty Rules, and Decisions: Upon the Jurisdiction, Pleadings, and Practice of the District Courts of the United States
This work contains the several subdivisions of section 563 of the Revised Statutes of the United States, relating to the jurisdiction of the District Courts; also sections 564 to 571 inclusive. It contains the Rules of practice in admiralty and maritime jurisdiction prescribed by the Supreme Court of the United States, and the Rules of the District Court of the United States for the Southern Dis trict of New York for practice in admiralty, in instance and prize causes, and in common-law actions; also the Standing Interrogatories in prize cases. The latter Rules are inserted because they are often referred to in the Reports of the District Court for that district, and because those Reports constitute a large share of the entire list of District Court Reports. Also, it is believed that those Rules correspond, substantially, with the rules and modes of practice of the District Courts generally. The titles to all the Rules have been prepared by the compiler of this work.
The decisions upon the jurisdiction, pleadings, and prao tice of the District Courts have been collected from all the Reports of the Supreme Court, 105 volumes; all Reports of the Circuit, Courts for the nine circuits, 103 volumes; and from all the Reports of District Courts.
