Excerpt from A Compendium of the Census of Massachusetts: 1875
The first volume, and which is designated Volume I. In the census series, is entitled Population and Social Statistics. Volume II. Is entitled Manufactures and Occupations, and Volume III. Is entitled Agricultural Products and Property.
Fisheries returns are contained in Volume II., and Mining in Vol ume III. Each volume has a Special introduction relating to the particular subjects considered in each.
Besides the volumes mentioned above, a compendium, containing aggregates of all results in Volumes I., II. And III. Has been published to meet the wants of those who do not care for the details by towns and a volume entitled The Census System of Massachusetts for prepared more especially for the Centennial Exposition at Philadelphia, containing all schedules, blanks, instructions, circulars.
